Job Title: Summer Field Scout
Location: Iron Mountain / Escanaba area
Schedule: Part-time, seasonal (Summer)
Pay: $30.00/hour + mileage reimbursement

Position Overview
We are seeking a Summer Field Scout to support operations at our seed farm during the growing season. This part-time, seasonal role is ideal for a self-motivated professional with summers off—who enjoys independent work and field-based responsibilities. The position involves traveling to various farm locations throughout Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to conduct crop scouting and field observations.

We are looking for someone interested in returning for multiple seasons, with opportunities to build depth and take on additional responsibility in year two.

Schedule & Hours

  • Approximately 20 hours per week

  • Three days per week: Monday, Tuesday, and Friday

Key Responsibilities

  • Travel to assigned farm locations across the UP to conduct field scouting

  • Observe crop conditions and identify potential issues

  • Accurately document findings and report observations in a timely manner

  • Manage daily schedule independently and meet expectations without direct supervision

  • Maintain clear communication with the farm team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively

  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel between farm locations (mileage reimbursed)

  • Strong attention to detail and observational skills

  • Maturity and professionalism to work autonomously in the field

Preferred Candidate

  • Interest in agriculture or outdoor work

  • Availability and interest in returning for future summers

  • Teacher or education professional with summers off

  • Independent role with minimal day-to-day supervision
