Overview of Position: Lead Diesel Mechanics are responsible for anything from routine maintenance work to specialized repairs. Mechanics are required to perform a range of duties and responsibilities that can differ from day to day depending on the jobs that they are assigned to. They job is to work closely and lead other mechanics to complete repair jobs in a timely and efficient manner.

Summary of Duties:   

  • Perform preventative maintenance repairs and part replacements on Forklifts, pickups, semis, trailers, and farm tractors

  • Responsible for 36 semis, 20 container trailers, 19 belt trailers, and 25 SUV/Pickups

  • Scope of service: Oil changes, greasing, clutches, u-joints, brakes, tires, 90-day inspections, DOT inspections, engines, transmissions, suspensions, etc.

  • Conduct fuel and electrical diagnostics

  • Maintain Maintenance records, DOT paperwork, oil change schedule and purchase orders

  • Develop and maintain a part number list by equipment

  • Order and monitor parts

  • Maintain and organize parts inventory

  • Maintain clean appearance of fleet

  • Maintain clean and safe shop appearance in compliance with Corporate/OSHA Standards: Daily-sweep job area, clean up grease/oil.

  • Weekly-sweep whole shop clean benches, dump trash, stock shelves, organize tool boxes, organize part shelves

  • Ensure strong communication to Facility Manager

  • Follow all OSHA safety standards

  • Hours vary approximately: 45 hrs./wk. 5 days a week (Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar, June, July), 60 plus hrs./wk. 6 days/wk. (April, May, Aug), 70 plus hrs./wk. 7 days per week (Sep, Oct)

    Standard Routine Job Expectations:

  • Ongoing part number list by equipment updated-saved on the Operations drive(O-drive)

  • Ongoing quality check of maintenance performance of crew

  • Daily Maintenance files updated

  • Daily organization and cleanliness of shop area

  • Daily communication to management on project status

  • Weekly parts inventory reviewed and organized

  • Weekly updates made to oil change schedule sheet

  • DOT Inspections done annually

    Work Experience/Requirement:

  • Minimum 3-4 years mechanical experience in working on diesel trucks

  • Extensive knowledge in vehicles is key in this role, this will help to diagnose larger scale more complex repair problems.

    Education Requirement:      

  • Preferred two-year degree in Ag Technology, Ag Engineering, or Ag Mechanics

    Skill Set Requirement:

  • Ability to lead a team as well as work independently

  • Ability to work extended hours during busier seasons such as planting and harvesting seasons.

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Good critical-thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Practical knowledge of proper diagnostic equipment

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Good organizational and time management skills

    Physical Requirement:      

  • Ability to withstand dusty, humid, wind, and other inclement weather conditions

  • Physical Demands of the job may include: Standing for longer periods of time, bending, sitting, walking, scooping, kneeling, twisting, turning, and climbing

    Environmental Factor/Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in an agricultural repair/maintenance shop

  • Occasional activities may take place that require PPE

  • Some travel may be required

  • Work environment required immediate response to spontaneous customer demands

  • Hours of operation will vary based on time of seasons, and farm operational needs that arise overtime

    Supervision Received:

  • Glen Everett (Maintenance Manager)

    Supervisory Responsibility:

  • May oversee some smaller groups of H2A workers, and other mechanics throughout various parts of the seasons

    Quality Standards:

  • Required to follow company and departmental quality standards
